All I want for christmas is…….
Games coming out next year.
Hey NERDlings sorry for the delay in post this past week but I was a little more busy than normal with school and work. Thank goodness for NERD. Anyway I wanted to make this post about four of the games I am most looking forward to coming out next year for each platform.
Xbox 360
I enjoyed the first game and had more fun just going around using all the different weapons and not playing the story through. This sequel appears to have kicked up the crazy weapons scale and has a multiplayer mini game mode too.
Playstation 3
I’m showing off my nerdiness with this one I know. I really enjoyed FFX and this game looks to be awesome. Your summons turn into vehicles in this one.
Wii
I LOVED the first game so of course I want to play the sequel. It promises to be bigger, better looking, more boss fights, and even crazier. Travis Touchdown is seeking revenge for the killing of his best friend and no one will be able to stand in his way.
Multiplatform
Here is a link incase the video gets pulled by the time you read this. http://arkhamhasmoved.com/ This looks to be the story of No Mans Land. Another critically acclaimed Batman graphic novel like Arkham Asylum. In the book Gotham is struck by a cataclysmic earthquake and the city is given up on by the federal government. The city becomes a lawless place where the super villains are fighting each other for control of different areas of the city. Batman is trying to bring peace to the land in his own way and is at odds with his former ally commissioner Gordon who now leads a “gang” of ex-cops called the Blue Boys to take the city back.

Modern Warfare 2 and the [NERD] tag!
So as we all know, a lot of us NERD’s like to play the new and awesome Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Rather you are on xBox or PS3 (0r even PC!), we all can agree this game more than surpassed our expectations for a sequel to the first Modern Warfare.
Something we would like to do is get all of our NERDlings (that’s you!) to start sporting the [NERD] clan tag while gaming online in multiplayer.
So, leave a comment below telling us your online gamer tag, and make sure you let us know what platform you are on, that way we can all become friends and get some games in together.
Kristin is kpolverino (PS3)
Wade is DashOne (PS3)
Hope to see you guys on the game!
If you have yet to buy Modern Warfare 2 yet, maybe this trailer will help get your mind in the right place:

Bans, Bleeps, and Black Boxes
Today I plan on talking about video game violence. What sparked my interest in talking about this today is the latest controversy about Modern Warfare 2. Here is a short video of the level which has caused the latest backlash against video games.
Warning NSFW and can be a bit much for some people to watch.
This is from a level in the single player campaign. You can skip it if you want in game and you can go through the whole level with out shooting any civilians. I stand by the decision of Infinity Ward to put this in the game because I feel like it brings out a lot of emotion in the story.
I have been an advocate of anti censorship my whole life. In fact my senior thesis in college was on this very subject. Video games are just the latest scape goat in a long history of media to get blamed for everything wrong with society. It was comics in the 50’s, music in the 70’s and then video games in the 90’s. The news organizations try and pass off all video games as being marketed and sold to children. Not bothering to check that the average age of a video game player today is in their 20s.
Mrs. Couric is quick to forget that the ESRB is actually very effective in not allowing violent games to be sold to kids. She seems almost disgusted at the idea that someone could kill a virtual program that looks like a human.
Hmmm….she sure does seem to be enjoying herself there. Shooting people and watching them die. I only put that up there not as evidence of blatant hypocrisy, but as showing you can have fun with violent games because you know its fake.
Well I don’t want to bring anyone’s weekend down with more negativity so heres a fun video for all those fighting game fans who spam one move over and over again.
Stay Focused and NERDy out there

Trust the Fungus
The new Prince of Persia Trailer hit the net this week and looks really good.
I know it looks like The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean had a baby, but I have high hopes for this movie because it’s based on a video game of the same name. I know video game movies before have been bad, very bad.

OF COURSE!
But it all depends on the director and the budget. I Thought Silent hill was a good movie and Resident Evil wasn’t that bad. I just feel there are a lot of games out there that still need a movie, a game like Castlevania. Watch the trailer for the new game coming out next year and tell me that wouldn’t make a great movie.
I think this would be a great movie just based on the mythos alone. I know Vampire movies are this year’s disaster movie, but I feel like a Castlvania movie (if done right) would be like a Dark Knight version of Van Hellsing.

Slim PS3 250GB for $350
Sony has announced a PlayStation 3 Slim with 250GB of storage space. It will be on sale on November 3. Except for having a hard drive a little more than twice as large, it’s apparently identical to the 120GB model that sells for $300. Awesome.

jessOrz, the NERD sighting specialist (NSS)
Hellooo, NERDlings. This is jessOrz. I will be blogging here, along with Kristin, Wade, and everyone that made their introductions last week.
Yes, NERD is great for students, but I think it’s great for all people. In fact, I see people from all walks of life enjoying NERD all over the place. It is my goal to document these NERD sightings.
So – I will be doing that weekly, along with other ramblings. Be on the lookout for some videos as well.
Anywho, last week, I was invited to go duck hunting. I agreed, since they were doing so via Nintendo. I was a little surprised, however, when I walked in to find a room full of people that looked like this:

That’s Texas for ya, I suppose.
Until next time,

A continuation of “An intro of sorts.”
Well I had a post already written out for today, but I decided that I didn’t like it. I don’t think that I got out all that I wanted to say about who I am or what I do. So today’s post will be just that.
Hello fellow NERDers, if you want me to refer to you all as something different just let me know, my name is Chris. I am going to UTSA currently and I am in my last semester for my bachelors degree in political science. Now I know some of you out there are saying “Hey thats not a science”, well I say if people consider cryptozooology a science, politics can be a science. I will not bring politics into the blog because I am not a big fan of flame wars and the political nature of our country right now is one crazy volcano about to blow.
Oh, and that photo of me is not shopped at all, just in case you were wondering. I am 6′10″ and that is just a 3/4 attic door. So, to clear the matter before I get asked; no I do not play basketball, my shoe size is 18, and yes… it is raining.
The things I plan on talking about on here range across the nerd spectrum. From video games to comics to movies to music, and just whatever really comes to mind that day. I am also trying to get a web comic started with a friend of mine, which I hope to use to start my own store selling humorous t-shirts and the like.
So, sit back and look out for lots of pictures and videos to come your way from me on here.
Hope you enjoy the ride!

Toning up for the summer
We all knew it was coming. We all saw the blurry cam pictures taken of the thinner version of the PS3. Well, Sony finally stated in a press release that it will be releasing it’s slimmer version of the PS3 come September 1st for $300.
The sleeker model will contain a bigger hard drive, 120 gigs, and apparently you won’t be able to install an alternate operating system on the new SKU. The obese model price will also be reduced, but why spend money on a bigger version with less hard drive space? No features will be gimped in the slim model. That’s a relief! It will also run quieter. Unlike the xbox 360’s internal jet engine.

Epic Fail
What does stealing from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo get you? 10 years in the slammer.
Matthew Crippen, a student at Southern California College, was taken into custody for modifying consoles to play pirated copies of video games. It’s a no brainier that this violates the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Apparently, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents got the heads up from the Entertainment Software Association and rummaged through Crippen’s home back in May. Enough evidence was discovered to prosecute the college student.
Crippen is expected for arraignment on August 10th. Will this make people think twice before they decide to alter their systems?

It has begun!
Many felt the Xbox 720 or the Playstation 4 would spawn the discless generation of gaming. Yet with the release of the download only multiplayer game Battlefield 1943, we may see the future a bit sooner than we think. Can you imagine a world where you don’t have to venture into a Gamestop, Walmart or Bestbuy to purchase a game? You can just kick back on your couch, browse through a virtual store, and download the desired title. This feature will be coming in the Fall with the Microsoft dashboard update. If all goes as predicted, they will have games on demand, Netflix movie parties, and dress up your mii avatar.
There are a few downsides to this digital revolution of media. The days of being able to lend your buddy a game will be over. That is unless you want to trade systems for a few days, and who wants to do that? No more trading in your old game for credit towards another purchase. No more buying games at a used discount. No more leaving the house to shop! This is sounding better and better.
The epidemic of pasty, orange fingered gamers is at hand. Let’s embrace our digital demise.
